What is CULTURATI LONDON?
CULTURATI LONDON is a weekly newsletter that offers curated tips for exploring arts and culture in London. It is by no means a comprehensive guide in a city with too many artsy happenings to even count, but rather a place to get some ideas about where to find more arts and cultural opportunities in London.
How do you define “culture”?
Good question! For the purposes of this newsletter, I view “culture” as a very expansive idea — cultural opportunities can be art exhibitions, theater and other live performances, films, concerts, comedy shows, and more. I also include food and drink places, because I view eating and drinking as a cultural experience, especially in a city with such a rich and diverse history as London, still grappling with the cultural legacy of colonialism. Hiking or other outdoors activities also often a different type of “cultural” experience, and so do opportunities to build community.
Additionally, I travel quite a bit and when I do, I try to explore the arts and cultural opportunities of wherever I am. As a result, some weeks will look more like a travel blog, offering arts and culture tips for different destinations. I’ll still try to keep up with the London goings-on while I’m traveling, but those weeks will generally be a little lighter on London.
Who writes CULTURATI LONDON?
I’m your host, Liv. I’m originally from California, USA, and I moved to London in May 2025 — very recently! I’m not an expert in the city, but as a newcomer, I hope my perspective (one of newfound excitement to be in a city with such rich depths of art and culture), will help inspire others to get out and explore the London arts and culture scene. I’m not a journalist, so my takes will be biased — I like modern and contemporary art, foreign and independent cinema, live music of almost any genre, and pretty much every cuisine. The newsletter will reflect my particular tastes and point of view, but I try to be expansive, curious, and down for whatever!
I spent years building up a career in climate and environmental policy in the US, but recently took a year off to travel, go to art museums around the world, and rethink my career. I’ve decided that I’m much better suited to a career in the arts, and I’m trying to make this professional pivot in London.
Who is the intended audience of CULTURATI LONDON?
It’s intended for folks who are new to London and want to know where to go to have cultural experiences, or folks who have maybe been here for a while, aren’t enmeshed in the arts and culture space, and want to branch out a bit. It’s intended to act as a curated guide — instead of spending hours combing through the city’s opportunities, you can look to CULTURATI to provide a summary of exciting arts experiences each week.
When is CULTURATI LONDON published?
Every Sunday! Time of day depends on when I get my act together, but I’m committed to releasing the weekly newsletter every Sunday.
Why are your pictures so bad?
I am notoriously a terrible photographer, and I have an iPhone 13 mini, which also has a notoriously bad camera. Maybe one day I’ll have the capital investment for better photos, but for now, I hope they are ~charmingly~ bad and indicative of the very lo-fi, DIY nature of this newsletter.
Can I submit tips or other ideas for the newsletter?
Sure! I love feedback, especially since this is the first time I’ve done something like this. Email olivia.seideman@gmail.com with any hot takes or tips.
